It was such a lovely idea that some children brought to our attention before Advent - trying to help other people/families by NOT spending money on Christmas cards or Christmas gifts this year.
There is so much financial pressure on people/children and families 'up and down' the country and it's certainly NO different at St. Bernard's. The current ongoing cost of living crisis is hitting hard!
Behind the busy school scenes, we work very hard supporting families who are really struggling - it is a difficult time for many out there. We MUST always be on the look-out for this and help whenever and wherever we can.
We politely ask that no Christmas cards or Christmas gifts are sent in this year - it takes some of the pressure and expectation away from many families. Thank you for your understanding and full support with this.
We don't want parents to feel under any pressure whatsoever or feel they need to do this.
One parent mentioned during a recent support meeting, "We are just skint at the moment with the lead up to Christmas, it's just so hard..."
In the St. Bernard's making a difference spirit, seek a simple charitable donation in place of giving staff presents or passing on Christmas cards, that could MAKE a real DIFFERENCE!
