SAFETY OUTSIDE - LOCAL NEWS12 December 2022 (by admin) |
It has been deeply upsetting to read recent events in the local news (Kingshurst - Solihull), regarding loss of precious life and the distressing impact on families, local school establishments and the wider community. We pray for all concerned.
As a St. Bernard's school community we joined together in quiet prayer this morning. We also spent time talking to some of the KS2 children this afternoon about this tragic event. Desperately sad time indeed for children, parents, families, friends, teaching staff in local schools, emergency services and all concerned within the local region.
The BBC news outlet issued this reminder for adults and children - it is for us all to take on board. The holiday break lies ahead and ongoing child/family safety is of paramount importance. Please spend time talking to your child/children this evening.
*Staying safe near frozen lakes*
*Children should not go on the ice under any circumstances
*Stay away from the edge of bodies of water as uneven terrain can make slips and falls more likely
*Whenever possible, stick to well-lit routes away from water
*Keep dogs on a lead when they're near the ice, and don't throw sticks or toys on to the ice
*If a pet falls in, do not go on to the ice nor into the water to rescue them, move somewhere where the dog can climb out and call them to you
