SCHOOL ATTENDANCE MATTERS - lost days = lost learning17 March 2023 (by admin) |
It is important to keep school fully in the picture regarding GENUINE ILLNESS and GENUINE REASONS for pupil absence. The school office MUST be contacted and informed immediately if a child is off school because of illness.
Again, we need to remind parents that BIRMINGHAM AUTHORITY works in partnership with St. Bernard's and issues regular penalty notices where and when necessary. The Education Legal Team have had to issue fines and continue to contact parents/families concerning long-term absence issues.
GOOD SCHOOL ATTENDANCE habits start at a young age. It is very much about being organised for the day and week ahead.
Of course, there will be times when pupil illness is completely genuine and there are occasional reasons for absence. THE SCHOOL OFFICE MUST BE CONTACTED AND INFORMED ACCORDINGLY.
You may also receive letters and information in the post outlining your child's attendance, showing illness dates and punctuality issues. THIS KEEPS YOU FULLY IN THE ATTENDANCE PICTURE regarding your child.
REMEMBER - GOOD SCHOOL ATTENDANCE MATTERS - opportunities for life!
Children should AIM for 95% attendance...that's the GOAL (even higher!)
Attendance for the whole school last week was 92.4% compared to the national figure of 93.7%. Our winning year group was year 3 with 94.4% - well done!
