WOW! BBC GARDENERS' WORLD 2024 (NEC) - CHAMPIONS!17 June 2024 (by admin) |
It all starts as a thought, an initial discussion, a small seed planted in the minds of our youngest green-fingered gardeners at St. Bernard's. St. Bernard's entered the nationally acclaimed BBC GARDERNERS' WORLD LIVE wheelbarrow competition (NEC).
School children, from nursery up to secondary level show off creative flair, working as a team, with the satisfaction of seeing their creative wheelbarrow gardens on display being enjoyed by tens of thousands of visitors! All took place between Thursday 13th and Sunday 16th June 2024.
The competition was a simple, hands-on, fun and thoughtful gardening activity. We entered with our original, fun, engaging, colourful, and FANTASTIC WHEELBARROW creation...
The CHALLENGE was intriguing and difficult...months of planning, nurture, patience, and loving tender gardening care!
The concept for this year’s wheelbarrow competition was food and climate change. Schools were encouraged to think about the many different ways that climate and environmental changes are affecting food production (both globally and at local level); choosing an aspect that interested pupils and deciding how to interpret this in designing and planting a wheelbarrow to show how the particular problem might be reduced.
And...wait for it...
