If your child is in Year 6, you should already be visiting local secondary school establishments and taking every opportunity to immerse your child in looking around different schools.

Know the deadline dates also because ONLINE APPLICATIONS for secondary will soon be upon you.

Applications for secondary school entry in September 2025 opened at 9:00am on 1 September 2024. The closing date is at 11:59pm on 31 October 2024.

Applications received after the statutory closing date (31 October 2024) for secondary school transfers will only be considered after applications received on time have been processed. Late applications will be processed after 3 March 2025.

Late applicants are less likely to get a place at one of their preferred schools for their child as most schools in Birmingham fill to their published admissions numbers with on time applicants that met their admissions criteria.

Open days and evenings or virtual events

• Schools may have open sessions or evenings that you can attend to have a look around the school or instead hold virtual events throughout September. Visit the schools' own website for further details.
• If your child has specific special educational needs or a disability (SEND) consider whether your chosen schools are suitable for their specific educational needs. Talk to school staff at the open days or evenings where they are taking place or contact them via other methods such as by phone or email.
