MENTAL HEALTH & ONLINE SAFETY7 February 2025 (by admin) |
Your child's ONLINE WORLD...know what's going on. How long do they spend ONLINE? What games are they accessing? Do they tell you what they are playing? How long do they spend on social media? Can they PHONE FAST?
PHONE FASTING is an idea. Can your child stay off social media or interactive online games? If they have a phone, can they stay off it for longer. Do you notice they want to keep accessing it? Are they accessing it first thing in the morning or last thing at night?
It could be a little family challenge perhaps. It's all about good habits starting at a young age. The PHONE FAST challenge! Doing something different instead!
The internet is a wonderful tool for learning but can also bring serious dangers with it to our children. We are seeing cases of children being adversely affected by the online world (even playing games they are NOT supposed to access):
- Children spending too much time online
- Children showing signs of addiction to games and other things online
- Negative impact of social media
- Being exposed to inappropriate content
- Playing games that are not appropriate for children
We all have a responsibility to make sure our children are safe online. We have online safety lesson threaded through our RHE and Computing curriculums and take part in initiatives such as internet safety week etc. but we need to be constantly aware of the dangers that the internet can bring. Every month we will be sending out a really helpful online safety newsletter that focuses on different elements of online safety - this month the focus is on misinformation and addiction.
If you have any questions or worries about online safety then please come in and speak to us.
