THE PERIOD of LENT...2025

4 March 2025 (by admin)

This year, Lent begins on March 5th and ends on April 17th 2025. Lent is 40 days long to represent the 40 days that Jesus spent fasting and praying in the desert before starting his own ministry. A most special time in our Catholic Primary School.

During Lent, there are many special days and phrases that our wonderful children will be learning about and exploring. These include Mardi Gras, Shrove Tuesday, Maundy Thursday, Holy Week, Palm Sunday, Passion Sunday, dust to dust, and much more: penance, ashes on the forehead etc.

Lent is approximately forty days long. If you count the days from Ash Wednesday to Holy Thursday’s Mass of the Lord’s Supper, you’ll find more than forty days. That’s why it’s not exactly forty days!

Lent reminds us, therefore, that Christian life is a never-ending journey in which the “weapons” of prayer, fasting and penance are used. Fighting against wrongs, against every form of selfishness and hate, and dying to oneself to live in God is the ascetic journey that every disciple of Jesus is called to make with humility and patience, with generosity and perseverance.

On a journey of faith through Lent...

In school, it is a most special time of reflection, spiritual learning, family, relationships, closeness to God...

Please pray for the children and staff...as we journey together
