    ASH WEDNESDAY MASS...tomorrow, 5th March 2025

    4 March 2025 (by admin)

A most special Mass takes place in the school hall tomorrow morning (9.30am start). Please note that Father Gerry is sometimes a little late due to traffic. MASS will start when he arrives. IT IS ASH WEDNESDAY MASS...start of LENT.

It is a very special Mass and the children will hear Father Gerry talk about the importance of ASH WEDNESDAY and what it actually means. They will see him also distribute ashes on the forehead of individuals. A very symbolic and spiritual act.
Children from Year 4 to Year 6 will of course be invited up as usual for Communion or a blessing from Father Gerry.
Before Communion however, and after the Homily, children will process up to receive ashes on their forehead. This will be for children from Year 4 to Year 6. This of course will be optional for any non-Catholic children from Year 4 to Year 6 (please see below).
Year 3 Holy Communion candidates will also be invited to receive ashes on their forehead.
'Anyone can receive blessed ashes on Ash Wednesday, whether Christian or not, to express their desire to grow spiritually and to turn away from their failings, their areas of weakness and brokenness, in favour of seeking the healing and wholeness that only God can give'

'Ashes are placed on our foreheads on Ash Wednesday. It is done for two reasons: a personal act of remembrance and as a sign or a witness for others. The ashes come from the burnt Palms from last year's Passion Sunday celebration, which begins Holy Week'
Please talk to your child about this most special symbolic act. Please remember that for non-Christian children in Y4 to Y6, this will purely be optional for them, and of course, a personal choice.
    Thank you parents.
